A Wonderful Little Scrawny Tree

Not far from my home I noticed this on the side of the road.

You can’t tell what it is?  It’s a scrawny Christmas “tree,” right there on the side of the road.

I drew it onto this next photo, so you can see it more easily.

What on earth?  Why did someone add a tree here, of all places?

Actually, it’s not a tree at all.  Just a couple of leafy branches whose leaves have now died.

But, it has battery operated lights and ornaments.

Who on earth would put a tree here?  I don’t know but I’m delighted by it!  Mostly by the idea of someone anonymously adding this decoration to our community.  And also, by how pathetic this little scraggly thing looks. I’m sure Charlie Brown would love it.

This little scrawny stick has really made an impression on me.  Someone went out of their way to give a smile to those who drive by.  What a wonderful thing to do, especially at Christmas time.

I hope your holiday will also be filled with unexpected surprises and delights.

Merry Christmas!

Love the post! It brought back memories of many years ago when I had a Charlie Brown tree because it fit so well in the bay window. Merry Christmas!

      Hi Mary Frances,

These little trees pack a lot of punch, don’t they? Merry Christmas!

Yes, Ingrid. I always say “It’s a blessing to notice your blessings.” So true.

      Merry Christmas!

Yuletide greetings, Ellen. I always like your POV. Sorry the judge of Loaded Conversations had such a limited POV… the description of the envisioned show, the guidelines for entering, etc., were certainly misleading. Sure, her gun violence prevention feelings align with mine, and makes for a powerfully political, and cohesive show….but I love many peeps who enjoy hunting. I also sense a divide in SAQA, the art world in general, between beautiful work and angry, conceptual work. And yeah, I’ve got a foot in each boat (see the website I founded, UnitedWeQuilt.com). A lot like the divide between antique vendors (no photos!) and trad quilters , between trad quilters and modern quilters, between hand-quilters and longarmers. So now, as my gentile husband plays the worst Christmas music ever produced, I’m going off to work on a piece for the between dawn and dusk call for entry. Joy to the World!

      Hi Eleanor,

It’s good to hear from you.

I was disappointed not to get into this show, but I have other places I can show it in those THREE years.

Good luck with your Dusk to Dawn piece. I’m not going to enter that one, but maybe I’ll enter Metamorphosis with something I’ve already made. (I’m not enthusiastic about making pieces for a particular theme.)

      Happy holidays!
