Flowers All Around: Two Finished Projects

I’ve been flitting from project to project all summer, but have finally managed to finish two of them.

The first, is my Flower Wagon Challenge, titled Snapdragons.

The second is the result of another small group challenge, titled Flower POW-er.

That leaves me with two other projects in progress, and a new one that I’m itching to start.

Ellen – I just love your Snapdragons! The flowers are gorgeous, and I love seeing all the different fabrics you used for your background. I wasn’t that brave with my background – I must make another one!

Thanks, Cheryl! I really enjoy using a wide variety of fabrics. The more the better!

  3. I love them, both of them. Your gift for picking color never ceases to amaze me.

Oh my goodness, I am in love with the snapdragons wow. wow. wow. my mother used to show us how those will open and close like a dragon mouth when you squeeze the sides. I can still remember it so clearly. she was a gardner and she loved to take us to visit flower gardens. I paint a lot of imagery from my childhood like that. The cows and sheep and roosters, the barnyard stuff is all from a New England childhood. Do you have a personal connection to floral imagery?

Thanks, Elizabeth! I had forgotten about their “mouths” opening, (even though my mom showed me, too.)

I guess I like flowers for their vivid colors and strong contrasts. And because I like to work loosely, their forms give me lots of room for play. (My favorite!)

Since I grew up on a dairy farm, I can definitely relate to many of your pieces, as well.
