Art Quilts Revealed: Part One

On a fine Sunday afternoon, my art quilt group, Dirty Dozen Fiber Artists, teamed up with Art More Place, to present Art Quilts Revealed.  Our primary goal was to introduce people to a “behind the seams” look at some of the techniques art quilters use.  Our secondary goal was to introduce quilters to Art More […]

Art Quilts Revealed

I’m really excited about an upcoming event in Melbourne, FL.  It’s called “Art Quilts Revealed” and it will be presented/hosted by my small art group, the Dirty Dozen Fiber Artists.  We’ll have lots of quilts on display, explanations of many of our techniques, and demos every half hour. It will be  held in Art More […]

“Southern Accents” Exhibit

The Southern Accents exhibit opened this past weekend in Melbourne, FL, and it’s awesome! Walking in, I was stopped in my tracks by Barbara Watler’s huge Croton Leaf.  At approximately 10′ high, it REALLY makes an impression!  It’s heavily stitched, which can be appreciated from the second floor mezzanine.  (Which is where this photo was taken.) Exhibits and Awards

It’s always fun to show my fabric collages locally.  This past weekend, I got to do it in two different venues. At the Titusville Art League spring show my Summer in the South won a sponsor award.  How nice! Click any image for a larger view I also got to attend the opening reception for Art Gallery […]

More Great Fiber Art in Jacksonville

Here’s some more great fiber art from the Fiber Artists Network (FAN) exhibit, in Jacksonville, FL. Click on any image for a larger view Many of the pieces on display were abstracts, like this one by Gretchen Jolles. Gretchen has really piqued my interest with this one.  Since I don’t “see” pots, I’d love to see […]

Florida in Fabric II Exhibit

If you live near Melbourne, FL, be sure to check out the “Florida in Fabric II:  Wish You Were Here” exhibit, at the Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts.  It’s a wonderful exhibit, with 35 art quilts.  And it’s all free! My quilt, The Last Few Dates, is part of the exhibit. The adjacent gallery […]

Blue Tape and Blue Ribbons

I recently entered one of my quilts in an art show.  You know, the kind with paintings, sculpture, etc.  This was my first venture into an exhibit that wasn’t geared exclusively toward quilts. In order to comply with hanging requirements, I had to figure out how to have each of my two entries hang on […]

Titusville, FL Spring Art Show

My quilt, Crisscross, is one of two that I’m entering in this weekend’s Titusville, FL art show. Click any image for a larger view The second one is High Ti: This will be the first time I’ve entered my work in a mixed media show, so I’m very curious to see how it will be […]

EGAD in Bloom

I was very happy with my first vending experience, at EGAD in Bloom.  It was definitely a LOT of work, but it was also a lot of fun.  This photo shows my display.  The room was a little dark, but an overhead light happened to shine exactly on my two center quilts. Click any image […]

Tags That Tell a Story

In preparation for my upcoming vending event, I’m making price tags for everything.  At first, I followed the typical exhibit-style wording, listing just dimensions and materials.  But then I thought “Is that what people really want to know?”  I asked myself the question, “If I were standing next to someone admiring this piece, what would […]
