A Potager Garden is a kitchen garden which grows vegetables, flowers, and herbs. The French word literally means “for the soup pot.” Invented by medieval monks, early gardens were often laid out in the shape of a cross, often surrounded by walls of hedges or stone. These humble beginnings inspired the trend of huge, elaborate walled gardens at places like Versailles.
