Kandy G. Lopez: Portraits in Yarn
Kandy G. Lopez is a portrait artist who’s currently working with yarn on gridded canvas. I got to see her work at the Orlando Museum of Art.
Check out this large piece! (Maybe 10 feet wide.)

Now, get closer.

And closer, still.

Amazing, right? Her portraits were very engaging. They were very large and in each one the subject had great body language and expressions. Plus, Lopez made many things look 3D with her use of perspective. Case in point.

See her her lower foot “comes forward?” And how we’re clearly looking up at this woman.

This gives you an idea of the scale and the perspective.

There were also some “head shots,” too. Again, with the wonderful expressions and details.

She made the frames herself, from resin.

I think these pieces are just wonderful. But, this VERY large piece (maybe 15-20′ wide) was the show stopper of the show.

As you can see, it was hung in the middle of the room. You could see through it and also see all the yarns and knots on the back. Very interesting.

I loved the confidence exuded by these women.
The show is no longer in Orlando, but you can see more very interesting pieces by Kandy G. Lopez on her website.
I hope you get out to see some great art in your area.
