The most recent issue of The Quilting Quarterly included an article I wrote, called Start with Color. I've now added it to my website, and you'll find it here. For those of you who belong to the National Quilting Association, you'll find the follow up article in your next issue, arriving soon.

Melbourne, FL Fabric Collage Exhibit
During March, my local quilt shop, Boutique 4 Quilters, will be displaying many of my fabric collages. The pieces in the exhibit (both quilts and glued collages,) are inspired by my surroundings, and it is aptly named Ellen Lindner: Around the Neighborhood. I'll also be doing an interactive Fabric Collage demonstration, to coincide with the exhibit. If you're in the area, I hope you'll drop in. Full details here.

Upcoming Events
- Melbourne, FL, March 1-30, Ellen Lindner: Around the Neighborhood solo exhibit
- Orlando, FL, March 2, 2009, Playing with Fabric lecture
- Melbourne, FL, March 21, 2009, Fabric Collage demonstration

Image - sunset colored abstractMore SMALL Quilts
Last month, I told you about my struggle as I tried to create a small piece, for a SAQA trunk show. I finally had success on my third attempt. This month, I thought you'd like to see one of the "rejects." Actually, there's not a thing wrong with this tiny quilt, except that I made it the wrong size.

Called Reflections, this quilt is only 8.75" square! I made it by tearing and arranging rectangles from a gorgeous hand dyed fabric. I added a few little accent pieces, satin stitching, and some hand stitching. It was fun to do (until I measured it,) and I'm quite happy with it.

Because I've had non-quilters think of such small quilts as potholders (shocking,) I know that small pieces need some help in order to gain more "artistic merit." For that reason, I'll be attaching this quilt to a 12" square gallery wrapped artists' canvas. My selected canvas is 1.5" deep, which makes a very nice presentation.

Image - orange copyright noticeCopyRIGHT or CopyWRONG?
Isn't it great the way quilters share everything? One person buys a pattern and several of her friends use it. It's a great way to save money, right? Wrong! This is actually a form of stealing. That's because the pattern is protected by copyright laws. The term copyright pretty much says it all: only the creator has the right to copy the item.

I believe that quilters are a kind and fair group. Therefore, I assume that this type of illegal activity is done because the people involved don't know better. Therefore, I'll include a little copyright information in my upcoming newsletters, in hopes of making us all more aware of this issue.

The next time a friend offers to share a pattern with you, I hope you'll consider purchasing your own copy. The pattern creator will appreciate it!
