Color Class Starts April 2nd
  • Image - red flower against black backgroundWhere can I get inspiration for color combinations?
  • How do you work a color wheel?  Why is it useful?
  • What goes with my favorite color?

These are just some of the questions answered in the online Adventures in Color class. This workshop will teach you how to use color to enhance your quilts and to achieve amazing results!

Class starts April 2nd. Find full details here.

Cancer Fund Raiser a Success

"Tote Tuesday" raised over $15,000 for the American Cancer Society! How awesome!

I got to play a small part by donating an art collage created especially for the event. It brought $120 in the online bidding and happily went home with Katherine McNeese. A big thank you to her, to Peggy Schroder who asked for my participation, and to Virginia Spiegel who created and organized the whole thing.

Great Student Quilts

Image - brightly colored squaresAs usual, the students in my recent Instant Art Quilt class were very creative! Betty Ann Seeman added beads to hers, to give it the look of a circuit board. You can see it at left, called Psychedelic Circuit Board.

Lenore Guajardo used Angelina on hers to create subtle moon shapes. You can see it and other student quilts in the student gallery.

Look for this class again in the fall. Full details here.

Tip: Quilt Finishing Checklist

What's your routine after completing the stitching on a quilt? I admit to sometimes moving on to the next thing without taking care of some of the finishing details. To help avoid that, I created a checklist for myself. It includes the obvious things like adding a sleeve, plus items like spraying it with a UV protectant. Perhaps you'd also find this checklist useful. If so, click on your preferred format:
Word doc - easy to edit for PC users.
PDF - everyone with Adobe Acrobat Reader can access it, but it's not easily customizable.

P.S. Want to know more about the UV protectant I use, and other favorite products? Click here.

Something Different

Image - orange pattern pieces collagedI'm a big believer in the value of artistic experimentation. That includes learning new skills and trying different media. This recent collage has no fabric in it, (except for one piece of ribbon.) Called Dressmaking Circa 1950, it's composed of paint, vintage pattern pieces, stamping and more.

Although somewhat intimidating, this mixed media technique was a lot of fun, and I expect to do more of it. See more info and a larger image here.

Read more about the process and see the book that piqued my interest on my blog.

There are several other new things on the website and blog. Be sure to check the sidebar on the right for the latest updates.

I hope you're enjoying your own unique quilt making adventure!
