Want to interpret a favorite photo as a quilt? And to learn about design? Then "Design Your Own Nature Quilt" is just what you need. This one-day class will take you all the way from uncertain beginner to confident designer, and you'll go home with a fabric composition ready to sew.

Class sample: Cosmo Cotillion

Find full class details here, but first, check out the awesome results other students have achieved.

BTW, this is my favorite class to teach, because the students gain so much skill!

New Video: Making an Accordion Book

These little books are super easy and versatile. Check out my latest video for the basics. (It's the second video on the page.)

Double Reverse Applique Class
Starts Online August 19th

My Double Reverse Applique class is the most popular one I teach. The killer apple project (at right) seems to have a lot to do with it. In addition, students find the technique very useful, since it's both accurate and easy. (It's great for portraits and such.)

Class starts August 19, 2011.

What Goes with Blue?

In our recent color class, we addressed that question, and many more. Exercises helped each student to master the concepts. See Diann Aycock's examples below. On the left is her monochromatic (one color) exercise. She's used a wide variety of values to create the necessary contrast.

Later, we learned about complementary (opposite) colors and did an exercise called "Messing with Mono." In it, each student added a few complementary accents to their monochromatic exercise.

Just look at the results! Adding the complementary color ALWAYS adds drama! You can consistently count on this.

If you missed the class, you can master this concept and more with the Adventures in Color e-book. I call my e-book series "Personal Workshop," because that's the way I structure them. After presenting a concept, I direct you to the workbook page to use the information in one or more exercises. (I'm very bossy that way.) But, these exercises are where you apply the information, therefore learning it thoroughly.

Find the Adventures in Color e-book here.

What's New

I'm winding down on my barn commission quilt and beginning to plan the next thing. That will be a piece for a local "White on White" challenge. Hmm. White on white. I can think of lots of options, but will I be able to resist adding in some color? Time to experiment!

You can always read about my work in-progress on my blog.

I hope you're enjoying your own unique quilt making adventure!
