I’m really enjoying the Christmas season. My family is close at hand and more will be arriving, decorating has been fun and stress free, and even shopping seemed easier this year.
We’ve already attended several fun events and have more scheduled. Maybe even some caroling. In our shorts and sandals.
I hope you’re having a similar experience. But, I hope you’re also celebrating the holy aspect of your holidays. For me, that’s a challenge sometimes. As a Christian, I want to remember and be thankful for God’s gift of his son, Jesus. With that in mind, I’ll be listening to some sacred Christmas music, attending church, and TRYING to stay mindful of the reason for the holy-day.
However you celebrate, I hope your holidays are filled with joy, memory making, and occasional thoughts as to the real meaning behind all of it.
Wishing you holiday blessings.

Merry Christmas
And happy new year, Gwen!
A beautiful post, Ellen. Highlights for me are always centered around music, preferable live with 300 voices and orchestra (which we do have at U of So Miss each year) plus choir rehearsals, choir program, the children’s Christmas play. All my family except my daughter and I live in Texas, but we are together in spirit and love. While lots of folks are frantically shopping, I am enjoying time in my studio with my cats. Merry Christmas to you in even warmer weather than I have! But my geranium and sasanqua are putting on a show.
This sounds like a wonderful tradition, Martha. Live music is always special. Not only because the performance is great, but also because you’re in an environment where you’re giving it 100% of your attention.
Hope you have a happy new year!
Beautiful! Definitely a holy day for me and my family. Will attend Mass this evening at a Catholic Church in our area to celebrate again the birth of Jesus and the gift of salvation. May your Christmas be blessed and holy.
A wonderful celebration, Maeve. Happy new year!
I savor the contrast between making joyful noises and enjoying the silent nights. It seems the month is filled with much stimulation and excitement which I love, the important part is to take a fireside moment to “ponder it all in my heart.”
As a new follower, I am amazed at your work. I especially am taken with the quilt hanging in your dining room. Does it have a name? I am wondering if I can read all about your process with it.
Hi Sue. That quilt is called Hope and Daydreams. It’s one of my favorites, However, because it was pre-website, I don’t have a lot of information about it on my website or blog.
However, you’ll find some more pictures at http://adventurequilter.com/old-blog/2009/12/looking-back-early-art/. Click on the images for a larger view.
This quilt started as a doodle. I made a pattern on freezer paper and worked one piece at a time in a technique developed by Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry.
