Behind the Scenes: Exhibit Prep – Shipping

Planning an exhibit requires a lot of behind-the-scenes tasks. There are the obvious things like deciding which artwork to send.

And the not-so-obvious, like sending instructions for hanging and for return packing.

Then, there’s the shipping. I sent four boxes from home and one more from QuiltCon. OF COURSE I didn’t have the right size boxes! I had one custom made, shortened one, lengthened one, and shortened a pool noodle – used for wrapping the quilts around. All of that took me over 4 hours! But, I became an expert at altering boxes in the end.

This one had to be lengthened – because it was 3/4″ too short!

I cannibalized another box, cutting the end from it, and applying it to the first box. I was PROUD of this!

And this was my send-from-home selection: about 12 pieces. Aren’t the boxes pretty? With their labels, their weights, and the shipping already paid. It was quite satisfying to take this photo!
