Adventures in Color Supply List
Instructor: Ellen Lindner
In this workshop, you’ll be learning about color and making pages for your own color workbook. However, the main thing you’ll gain from this workshop will be intangible: your increased knowledge and confidence with color!
First of all, you’ll need a color wheel, like an artist uses for mixing paint colors. My preference is a rotating one about 9” wide. You can pick one up at Michael’s, or an artist supply store, for about $6.
Of course, you’ll need some supplies in order to do the exercises in your workbook. For the most part, you’ll be making quick collages. Therefore, you’ll need small amounts (1/2 page or less) of a wide variety of colored papers. These don’t have to be fancy. The best place to look is in your old magazines. Look for ads that have close up pictures of flowers, and landscapes. These papers should have one main color, although mixtures of blue/orange, yellow/purple, and red/green, will also be useful. If you go through 2 or 3 magazines you’ll have plenty. (If you get pressed for time, you can bring your magazines to class intact, but this will greatly slow down your class productivity.)
You’ll also need some paint sample cards. Try to find the pure color wheel colors: yellow, yellow-green, green, blue-green, blue, blue-violet, violet (purple), red-violet (fuscia), red, red-orange, orange, and yellow-orange. Then grab another handful, including pastels, subdued colors, and darks of your choice.
Be sure your supplies include a wide range of colors, in light, medium, dark, dull, and strong! Also, include one piece of solid black paper. You’ll need some sort of glue stick to attach all this stuff, paper scissors, and a pen or pencil for notes.
I’m really looking forward to our time together. Plan on lively participation, and I know we’ll have fun! Feel free to contact me directly, if you have any questions.
