I can’t speak highly enough of Ellen Lindner as a virtual instructor – she values her students and provides them with the tools and support to be successful.

Ellen has both the technical expertise and the teaching skills to deliver all her usual content via Zoom. Students participate using their own computer or tablet, and have the convenience of sewing at home.

What does a guild have to do to prepare for a presentation from Ellen?
– The group will be responsible for training its members to use Zoom. Members should be trained to create a free Zoom account, login, and turn their microphones and video on an off.
– The group should have at least one person who is very familiar with Zoom. Zoom has excellent training materials and the support site is easy to search. See it here.
–  The group will provide a moderator during all online events. She/he will monitor the chat comments and address any issues. She will also gather questions for later Q & A.
Ellen will gladly meet online with guild representatives to explain and demonstrate online learning capabilities. This will be for up to 30 minutes.

For students: be prepared to show your work. You’ll most likely want teacher feedback. In order to give it, Ellen must be able to see you work. In order to facilitate this please plan ahead. Many times your project will not be pinned and, therefore, it will be impossible to move it to the camera you’re using. Instead, plan to:

  • Illuminate your work area very well.
  • Bring your device (iPad) etc. so it’s pointing at your work. (This can even be done with a laptop, but it’s tricky.)
  • If that’s not viable, be prepared to take a photo of your work and email it to Ellen. Please be familiar with your devices so you can do this quickly. You may want to practice.
