Well, here it is, version two now complete: Mid-October.
After completely finishing AND photographing version one, I began to think it was too dark. It just didn’t remind me of the bright fall colors I was going for.
See what I mean? (Actually, the two quilts photographed slightly differently, but I think you can see the duller patches throughout.)
What do do at this stage? I “painted” over several spots with Inktense color blocks. (See the detail shot.) To my eye it’s much better.
Have you ever painted over a completed quilt? This is not my first time around that particular block.

What colors of Inktense did you use? I cannot tell if you used a bright yellow that was very close to the original color or something a shade or two closer to white… or both? I am just experimenting with Inktense and have not tried it over prints. I HAVE painted over a finished quilt in the past and finally discovered what I really wanted to “say” in the process. It is scary, though, isn’t it?
Hi Candace,
I have a very basic set of Inktense blocks, so it was nothing fancy: just the bright yellow that comes with it. I just sprayed the quilt with water and then drew/painted on with the block. (Note that this did not give me even coverage. If you need that, you’ll want to use a much more controlled application.)
Good for you for painting over a finished quilt! You sound like you’re an adventure quilter, too.
I’d lik to think so. Here is my post about one of the scariest times I did something to a quilt late in the game: https://makinloud.wordpress.com/2017/04/05/committing/
This is very cool, Candy! I’d love to see the finished quilt (although I think I already have, right?)
You can see the finished quilt and a few detail shots in the portfolio section of my blog here: https://makinloud.wordpress.com/portfolio/insistent-screams-and-silent-ponderings/ . That quilt is front and center in the clickable photomontage. Enjoy!
Beautiful!
Thanks, Kristin. I’m happy with it, (finally.)
