My latest quilt, Poppies Ablaze, is now complete.
I’m very happy with it, plus I had a lot of fun working on it!
This very close detail shot shows the double black outline stitching which I love to use.
This piece is the newest sample for my class “Design Your Own Nature Quilt.” (This class is currently underway online and it’s not too late to join in.)
I can’t wait to make another class sample! These are fast and fun. See more class samples here.
Poppies Ablaze is 21″ x 17″ and is available for 325.

Gorgeous!
Thanks, Susan!
The white edging on the stems and buds is genius…also love the subtle (addition?) of the pink stripes on either side down low. Was just discussing with a paint student ways to direct the eye in design…lovely trick. Great piece: fresh.
Hi Cindy. Thanks.
You’re giving me a lot of credit, though, regarding the pink stripes. I just wanted to put some color in and added it in an area that I knew wouldn’t have flowers in it. And, of course, those lines HAD to be diagonal!
Very successful piece, Ellen. The yellow around the flowers and the white around the stems really punch the colors and as Cindy said, direct the eye. I also like the way you focused the piece on only a few flowers, rather than copy the original photo. Much more dynamic.
Thanks, Andrea!
It’s much easier, and as you said, even more effective, to focus on just a few killer elements. The back lighting is what made these flowers so striking, so I had to include it.
One of my most favorites! This is gorgeous.
Thanks, Muz!
(To my other readers, “Muz” is a nickname for my mom. Isn’t she sweet to comment?)
Love the poppies. What is the white on the left side of the blooms.
I double and sometimes 3 times sewing with black thread.
Hi JA. The white around the stems was back lighting in my original photo. Same for the yellow around these pink poppies. I wasn’t sure it would read correctly in fabric, but I thought it would be striking either way. Glad you like them!
