“Oak Green Farm” Complete
My farm quilt, Oak Green Farm, is now complete.

It depicts the farm where I grew up, and where my parents still live. Very little has changed over the years: rolling fields, sunlight reflecting off the metal barn roofs, and that big maple tree.
This scene is full of memories for me: walking home from the bus with my siblings, eating wild strawberries on the road banks, and singing to a group of very curious cows. (I still think they liked it. Surely!)
The scenery was idyllic then and it still is now.

P.S. My quilt, Carefree, depicts another scene on this same farm road, this time looking the other direction, and with the next generation of kids.
Hi, Ellen
Watched this piece grow into a masterpiece. Don’t ever part with it.

This is lovely, Ellen. You’ve framed it nicely, and your use of color and design are really good. Thanks for sharing your process. It’s always a reminder to me of the steps to follow as I work at the design of MY next piece.

Thanks, Genevieve. I don’t plan to sell this quilt and I’ll probably want descendants to keep it, too! 🙂
Thanks, Lynn.
The darker sides were inspired by the work of Ton Schulten. I think they’re pretty effective and I may use them again. Probably straight next time.
I always like to examine my quilts and ask, “If I were to do this again, what would I do differently? But also, what worked well, that I should keep in mind?”
Glad to know that your memories of “home on the farm” were good ones. Your quilts are remarkably like the real scenes, and a joy to behold. This view is basically what I see from my house, and you have captured it beautifully.
Really beautiful quilt of a peaceful scene from your life. Love it! Gorgeous colors, and fabulous tree and sky.
Thanks, Maeve. I’m very happy with, even more so for the sentiment it holds.
Hi Mom (Martha Harris,)
Glad you like it, Mom. I learned a lot of my art skills from you!
